THE RAT PACK IS BACK!
IN THE STARLIGHT AT THE DESERT INN

The stage is set. The date is December 12, 1961 and The Rat Pack is back in full swing in The Starlight at The Desert Inn!

Frank would prefer to keep his 46th birthday a secret from the audience, but his pals have a different plan - Sammy, Dean and Joey have planned a birthday bash to honor Ol' Blue Eyes in style!

desert-inn-sinatra.jpg (6616 bytes)Our first introduction to the legendary crew is Joey, played by Hiram Kasten, who keeps the audience in stitches with his famous dry wit and comic shtick, typical of the era. The Chairman of the Board, played by Bobby Caldwell, enters with his usual style and panache to delight his well-wishers as he invites them to "Come Fly With Me," backed by the sensational twelve-piece Lon Bronson Orchestra. Caldwell's every move, every glance, every word, every hand movement and every step is reminiscent of the one and only legendary performer to whom he pays homage. His voice carries you back to another place and time and is remarkably familiar. His next songs include favorites "I Get a Kick Out of You" featuring a fabulous saxophone solo and "Luck be a Lady Tonight."

Frank's comic side is brought to the fore as he quips a few jokes and declares that as this place is nothing more than a glorified saloon, he'll sing a saloon song. "It's A Quarter to Three, There's No One in the Place, Except You and Me" - and from the back of the room his first surprise guest, in the form of Dean, played by Steve Apple, heckles the classiest man in show business and joins him on stage as they exchange some classic one-liners and even a melody or two. But, Dean has not come empty handed on the Boss's birthday...his gift of "Candy" is a welcome surprise in the form of a blonde bombshell and Frank takes leave to sample his present in private.

Apple's impersonation of the King of Cool is flawless as he captures the very essence of Dean's crooning style, vibrato, charisma and classic good looks. He interacts with the audience with the charm and grace of the master and is joined in chorus by the jovial orchestra as he lovingly sings "That's Amore!"desert-inn-dmartin.jpg (12708 bytes)

The completion of The Rat Pack comes in the form of the one and only Sammy, played by Tony Tillman, who arrives to pay homage to his exalted ruler, only to find Dean onstage instead. Perfectly happy to entertain the troops in Frank's absence, Dean and Sammy sing a duet in tandem, a good-natured rendition of "Sam's Song." Upon Frank's return, Sammy announces that he too has brought a girl for the birthday boy and promptly produces "Mandy," a twin sister to "Candy!" Frank and Dean, determined to tell them apart, exit arm-in-arm with the perfect package.

The return of Frank and Dean brings to life the comedic Rat Pack of old as the terrible twosome taunt and tease Sammy as he tries to sing one serious song after another and the results are nothing short of hilarious. Things calm down momentarily as Frank takes the opportunity to introduce a celebrity in their midst and invites him to sing a song. Bobby Darin, played by David Cassidy, performs a powerful rendition of "Mack The Knife," for a surprised and delighted crowd, both on stage and off. The heckling of Sammy continues even as he sings his very first recording "Hey There" and soon they are joined onstage by the celebrated drink cart and "Bartender" Joey who launches a barrage of jokes and numerous toasts to commemorate Frank's birth.
