Gambling at the Gold Spike should be included in everyone's Las
Vegas experience. This small, dingy casino is infamous for it's
label as the quintessential "grind joint", or casino that
caters to low rollers. The Gold Spike attracts a crowd with
it's very low table limits and penny slots. Penny Slots! If you
only took the change laying around your house to gamble, you could
still be at the slots for days! The only drawback is that lots of
other tightwads have the same idea, so you might have to wait a
couple of minutes before you can spend that fortune.
Hanging out in the Gold Spike can be fun because of the clientele
and the decor. It feels like a high-school party in your friend's
basement. There's '70's shag carpeting and wood paneling all over
the place, making it fun, but you also might feel scared your parents
are going to catch you drinking. The clientele is a mixture of locals,
curious tourists, fans of camp and genuine cheapskates. Don't leave
without trying the best $.49 shrimp cocktail you've ever had (and
lived to remember).
