The Golden Nugget is one of the most
famous names in Las Vegas. A fixture of the downtown/Freemont street
area since 1946, the Golden Nugget still defines what casino gambling
should be like. You would expect nothing less from Steve Wynn, the
owner of the Golden Nugget and some of the other best casinos in
Las Vegas. He gradually phased out the Old West theme in favor of
something more refined. Now, the Golden Nugget's bright
interior is adorned with marble and gleaming brass. It conveys a
luxurious and elegant feel, something most casinos in the downtown
area eschew.
One of the attractions of the Golden
Nugget is the "Hand of Faith" nugget on display in the
casino. It is the largest gold nugget in the world, weighing in
at 61 pounds, 11 ounces.
The rooms at the Golden Nugget are the
best downtown Las Vegas has to offer. They are almost identical
to the rooms in the Mirage, except for the color scheme. As you
might guess, the rooms at the Golden Nugget use more gilt edges
and gold in general. You enter the room through a marble entryway,
where you'll find a half canopied bed, dressing table and marble
bathroom. If you're staying in a single-bed room, try to stay in
the North Tower-the rooms are slightly bigger. The suites are also
noteworthy, as they each have separate male and female bathrooms.
The female bathrooms have potpourri and a jacuzzi. (Each bathroom
also has it's own TV) The suites also have a big common room with
a wet bar.
