Carson Street Cafe

You're going to wish there were more 24-hour diners like the Carson Street Cafe. It has a wide variety of dishes that are all well prepared and tasty. They offer all sorts of salads, burgers, deli sandwiches, breakfast dishes and entrees like country fried steak or meatloaf. We thought the omelets were particularly good, but anything tastes good at 4am. Nightowls will like the 11pm to 7am special of an 8-ounce ham steak with eggs, hash browns and toast for $3.95. There are also a couple of good items on the dessert menu.

The dining room is beautiful. It overlooks the magnificent lobby and is filled with lush greenery. It's not often a 24-hour cafe has a decor worth mentioning, but the Carson Street Cafe's interior is outstanding. It's casually elegant and well attended at any hour.

Lillie Langtry's

You might not guess it from the name, but Lillie Langtry's has some of the best Chinese food in Las Vegas - and since almost every casino has a Chinese or pan-Asian restaurant, that's really saying something. The dishes are prepared to perfection, and Lillie's makes their dishes without MSG (you won't taste the difference). The decor is nice too. There are examples of Chinese art adorning the dining room as well as gilt-framed mirrors. Open for dinner only  from 5pm to 10:30pm. Reservations are suggested, call (702) 385-7111

The Golden Nugget Buffet
(702)  385-7111
Monday through Saturday: 7-10:30am, 10:30am-3pm and 4-10pm ; Sun 8am-10pm
Breakfast $5.75; Lunch $7.50, Dinner $10.25 Sunday Brunch $10.25

This is perhaps the best buffet in Las Vegas. The dining room is very attractive with a clean, modern look that is complemented by lush greenery. The seating is in comfortable booths and the clean-up service is inconspicuous, but extremely efficient. These are nice touches, but the real attraction is the superior food. The dishes are all made with the finest ingredients and are very well prepared. Every night fresh seafood is offered and for dessert you can have some of  Zelma Wynn's (Steve's mom) bread pudding. There are over fifty items in the salad bar alone. The best of these offerings is for the all-day Sunday champagne brunch. It offers the usual fare with some additions like eggs Benedict and blintzes.
